Curiosity Is Not Enough

Some of you may know me from my byline in “UFO Magazine.” I’ve worked there off and on since 1989, which is frighteningly close to twenty years. My own favorites among my articles usually have to do with alien abduction and its numerous consequences. The subject has totally absorbed me since I read Whitley Strieber’s “Communion” that same watershed, for me, year of 1989.

      My first reaction to Whitley’s story was to recognize the fact that so many of the same sorts of paranormal events had happened to me since childhood, through adolescence and into adulthood. However, I also realized that I had absolutely no memories of Grays, Nordics, Reptilians or any other physical embodiments of alien life.

      What I did have was what Budd Hopkins called “screen memories,” images implanted by the aliens and intended to block out the traumatic medical procedures, the harvesting of sperm, etc.

      One screen memory I vividly recall happened in 1977. I was living in Austin, Texas, at the time and hoping to succeed as a songwriter in the field of country rock, like Willy Nelson, who was just starting to achieve the tremendous fame he has now. I was sharing an apartment with two other musicians, and we were awaiting the arrival of a hotshot fiddle player in the hope that he would join the band we were trying to form. As the afternoon wore on, I began to get restless. Finally, standing outside the screen door there appeared a thin little man in shorts and cowboy boots, wearing extremely dark sunglasses.
